Intro to Cambodia

As is the case for many travelers, the initial attraction that brought us to Cambodia was the chance to visit the famous temples of Angkor Wat in and near Siem Reap. We got so much out of our first trip there, that we came back for another visit in 2012.

On our first trip to Cambodia, we were traveling by river boat coming in from Saigon (or more correctly Ho Chi Min City). It was kind of an interesting experience to clear customs riverside in the middle of no where. Our boat pulled up to a dock, some local kids offered to help us with the luggage and we filed one by one through the immigration house. While the agents didn’t have much of a sense of humor, it was a relatively painless process.

You can read more about that trip on our Saigon & Mekong River Trip page.

One additional word on that part of the trip: If given the option of taking the “fast” boat or the “slow” boat to Phnom Penh, choose the fast. We took the fast boat and it still took about 3 hours from the (Vietnamese) border town of Chau Doc.
